Hi Colin
My router probably does behave strangely but I don't know enough to
diagnose and my ISP is also unresponsive. I am waiting for installation
of fibre telecomms in a month or two before moving on.
The DWR-730 has two buttons on the side. The top switch usually powers
down with "BYE" message. Sometimes there is no response at all, so it
stays on overnight.
You probably think I should leave the router on always; but I don't
like it being available for baddies in other time zones to target it. I
live in +2 zone.

I have been learning a bit about firewall and port protection, but it
gets very complex. I installed ufw with its defaults and see different
apps using specific ports but don't understand what settings, rules etc
make sense.

Now that is getting off topic so I will try to learn more online.

Thanks again for your patience.
