If you press Ctrl+Alt+F1 on the login screen, do you get a console and
a login prompt?

If so, log in there, and then you can try:

sudo apt install -f

If you have an internet connection, you can also do:

sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

Then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot.

If that doesn't fix things, go to the console again, and try removing
the nVidia driver. There are a whole flurry of posts of people
reporting problems with the latest nVidia driver.
