As Colin has replied on backintime, I'll just answer for attic. It does
deduplication and compression of data, and it also supports encryption
through OpenSSL. You need to use attic to restore data, though, you
can't just browse the files.

It's also very efficient, I have 267GB of data in one backup
repository that is compressed and dedup'ed down to under 15GB.
