Still trying to get Gmail notifications to work on Ubuntu 14.04

I also could not get mail-notification, gmail-notify, gm-notify and
checkgmail to work. gmail itself works well.
I am using Google Chrome
The rectangular notification notice does not appear on my desktop after
following the prescribed notification setup.
Has anyone found critical setup requirements for this?
