ubuntu 16.04 vnc doesn work

Thanks for your reply. And no, I have another problem which you can see 
in the attached picture. The screen is blank with a cursor but no 
desktop is displayed and nothing can be done.
I thought the fonts was the problem but apparently it something else. 
The log doesn't give much help.

The only problem is ignoring some encodings but I don't think that is 
the problem.
I have the same setup on a raspberry pi 2 and there it works without any 
problem.
Maybe you or somebody else can tell me what is wrong.
