16.04: Graphical login/desktop vanished?

I guess that is a clue, my 16.04 says
$ sudo systemctl status lightdm
..
● lightdm.service - Light Display Manager
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service; enabled;
vendor preset: enabled)
  Drop-In: /lib/systemd/system/display-manager.service.d

But what it means I don't know.  Josef, are you sure you did a clean
install of 16.04, not an upgrade or something?
