I cannot log in Ubuntu 15.10

I ran into this a few times at work on a few systems. On a hunch I just
moved .config to a new location and then tried to log in to the GUI like
normal. This process causes Unity to reset to defaults, but it at least
gets the system working again as it generates a new .config directory on
the fly (at least in my experience).
At login screen on a fresh boot:
CTRL ALT F1
log in to TTY
mv .config .config-OLD
exit
CTRL ALT F7
log in to GUI
Given that you are doing a move (mv) and not just nuking the directory,
it should be easy to reverse if need be.
Next time this comes up at work I intend to dive further into .config to
see what exactly I can remove so I don't have to move the entirety of
.config, but as of now that's the best idea I have in mind.
Hope this helps!
