I disagree. It's less typing, it's functionally equivalent if things
are working and it should be safe.
I sometimes have to use unreliable (intermittent) internet
connections. Then doing it my way means it will install what it was
able to download, and I can retry later.

I know you do, but most people don't know and it is unrealistic to
expect them to.

Why?

Currently the well-tested and established ones are covered by software
patents. :-( This should be more generally available soon, but it is
unnecessary complexity and risk except for critical servers.
