Linux, Lenovo, AMD Radeon

Sad face :-(

My new Lenovo E560, with AMD Radeon R7 M360 arrived yesterday. Today I
went to install Ubuntu 14.04-02 on it, only to fall at the first hurdle.

I get the main menu OK, select Install, and after a few seconds I see
this:

[drm:si_dpm_set_power_state] *ERROR* si_upload_sw_stat failed

Lots of other people have seen this, it seems. It appears to relate to
the AMD graphics, but all the solutions I can find involve already being
booted into Linux.

In desperation I systematically tried the various boot options available
(noapnic etc), bit none of them made a difference. Adding vga=771 got it
to boot into a GUI. The same message was output, but the boot didn't
hang. It was very low resolution, the colours were bizarre, and while
you could sort of tell there was some text there, nothing was legible
except the mouse cursor. Not useful.

I'm downloading 15.10 now, just in case that makes a difference, but
otherwise I can see no remedy but to return the unit - if they'll take
it back.

Unless someone out there has a magic incantation?

I'm starting to think I should have listened to Gene Heskett about
AMD...

Regards, K.
