USB not mounting

Make sure everything is patched and reboot, sometimes it's just a simple as that. I remember I had this issue a little while back and I seem to remember that a patch fixed it. And a reboot never hurt.

500 gig drive.
I can't see any USB hard drives or any of my USB thumb drives.
I plug in my phone and it pops open no problem.
I switched where they go into the computer, but no luck. Windows
10 sees them.

OK I sudo mkdir /mnt/usb
Then sudo mount /dev/sdh1 /mnt/usb
Can access the drive no problem. But what is causing it not to
automount?
