You must have confirmed subscription to the mailing list.

On top of the "information" you don't want to receive, there's this
information:

  "To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit
  https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users"

Assumed it was intended to subscribe, but it's unwanted to receive
mails or even the digest, then use the same link to log in and to
disable mail delivery.

If you want to unsubscribe, at the bottom of the site you only need to
add your email address, a password isn't required.

  "To unsubscribe from ubuntu-users, get a password reminder, or change
  your subscription options enter your subscription email address:"

After that push the button and wait for a confirmation email, you only
need to confirm and then you're unsubscribed.
