Hi Tom,

in this case the OP has got a special setup were GRUB2's auto-feature
doesn't work, regarding an old known bug. Beyond that the OP doesn't
need a bootloader at all.

If somebody makes a default novice install of Ubuntu, it's ok to
install a default GRUB2, but why is it a recommended dependency and not
a suggested dependency of the linux-image* packages?

I gave several options what the OP could do, I also mentioned what Oli
later repeated, to purge grub. What is wrong with providing choices that
all could solve the issue the OP experienced?

The default Ubuntu way didn't work for the OP, so why not giving
choices. I mentioned what Oli mentioned too, he didn't wrote something
new, he just repeated what I already explained. Why keeping back
choices? The choices were not risky and even if something should have
gone wrong, we and I could have fixed it with a few hints from the list.

An ubuntu.com address not automatically makes somebody a smart guy. he
even didn't quote a complete sentence I wrote, just to discredit me
and he has done this several times before. I underpin something with
links, even to the Ubuntu help pages and he starts quoting incomplete
sentences and claims I spread nonsense.

Linux is about choice, not about restriction. The Ubuntu users don't
need a nanny.

Regards,
Ralf
