Flash drive needs authentication for mount

I reported the below issue a couple of years ago, but it has sat
silent since then.

I haven't seen this happen recently, until just now.

The only solution I have found is to log out and log back in, which is
not at all cool.

Is there any news on this front at all?

It seems to happen out of the blue and doesn't go away while I'm still
logged in.

This happened a week or so ago on my work desktop, now it's happening
on my home desktop.

Xubuntu 14.04.1

I plug in my flash drive and get the root authentication window
instead of the drive just mounting.

What changed and how do I fix it?
