You forgot the sample pings with and without the VPN turned on.
Also - what kind of VPN are you setting up? It looks like it might be
OpenVPN?
Are you at Uni Duesseldorf? There is a wiki page for VPN access to HHU
which might be useful, with extensive notes on getting it going with
Linux, and even a support email address you can use:

Whether you are at that Uni or not, your work support people might be
better placed to help you, and faster than we can.
