pulseaudio not authenticated

This is very strange.

I have been using my HPG210 to watch videos thru a LG monitor via HDMI.
Last night I could not get any sound.  I went to Synaptic to reinstall
pulse and there it says that pulse audio is not authenticated!  I
reinstalled and now have no sound at all!

1:4.0 is the version number it gives in synaptic.

appreciate any help
