*Ubuntu 16.04 does not "discover" the printer Samsung ML-1660, though "printer-driver-splix" has been installed.

Hello Everybody.

The package "printer-driver-splix" has been installed at my system, when
making a fresh install of Kubuntu 16.04. This package is aimed at providing
drivers for, amongst others, the printer Samsung ML-1660. However, when
plugging in the printer, the system does NOT recognise it. It does not see the
printer at all. I have used "printer-driver-splix" in several previous
versions of Kubuntu in combination with the same printer, so, I do not
understand why it does not work in this case.

When going to SYSTEM SETTINGS > printers, the system does not "see" the
printer. But I do also not see the list of drivers to install manually - as I
could see in several previous versions of Kubuntu. That's why, I do not manage
to invoke the splix driver I need.

For several years, I have been using this method also:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1591873
However, I do not find any more the "Unified printer driver" at the website of
Samsung.

Can you please help me to get my printer working again?

Yours.
Bas G. Roufs.
