Have you created a bootable USB stick (NOT your backup stick!) or DVD?
Here's a link to documentation (with illustrations):
http://docs.kubuntu.org/docs/installation.html
Summary
1) Download the .iso image
2) Use a utility to put the image on the boot medium -- either a DVD or a
USB stick.
3) When the utility finishes creating the boot medium, boot your system
from the DVD or USB stick. (You may have to check your computer's
documentation to learn how to do this.) Choose the option to test Kubuntu
to see that basic things seem to work.
4) Choose "Install Kubuntu." The installer will give you several options,
including erasing your existing installation, including all your files.
Based on what you have said, I think you want to erase everything.
[But verify that your backups are good before you do this!]
If you're still unsure I recommend reading the installation information at
Kubuntu.org.
