I wouldn't recommend to clean the complete cache, even while my cache
usually is empty, but I have a backup strategy and archive the cache.

The important part of the cache was tidied up, so at least in this case
wiping out everything wouldn't gain anything.

So disk space isn't an issue.

A fsck as recommended by Liam is a good idea, a reboot independent of a
fsck doesn't harm either.

JFTR after reinstalling, updating etc. close and reopen the video
player.
