Please, first run
  sudo apt-get update
and do _not_ post the output of "sudo apt-get update".
After that run _all commands_ mentioned by Colin, and _post the output
of those commands, including the command_.

In most terminal emulations you can copy by a right click menu and/or
the "Edit" menu, assumed it provides a menu bar, the shortcut Ctrl+C
does not work, since it's assigned to a signal. Your terminal emulation
might provide a replacement shortcut, perhaps Shift+Ctrl+C.
