Maildir in Thunderbird?

I like alpine, formerly pine, but since it doesn't store files locally 
(pros and cons to that) it really needs to be paired with something like 
http://offlineimap.org/ to cache gmail, or perhaps postfix.

I haven't done it yet, but it seems definitely worthwhile.
