Firstly if several things stop working then there is not point just
installing new stuff, you need to get to the bottom of the problem.  I
note in the log:

Sep 22 09:14:08 main kernel: [  297.372302] EXT4-fs (sdb1): warning:
mounting fs with errors, running e2fsck is recommended

You need to do that.
