No, you were not. You were not friendly -- you were mocking and hostile.

You refer to Mint scornfully as a "freakish distro".

You have no right to make such judgement calls.

You suggest and imply that the OP is foolish and asking in the wrong place:

This is implying that the OP is stupid.

You spread FUD:

This is a blatant, bare-faced lie; Mint has a single parent distro,
which is Ubuntu, nowadays the LTS version. Yes it contains non-Ubuntu
code; so does LXLE, so did Lubuntu and Ubuntu MATE before they became
official remixes.

You are hostile, mocking, spread false information -- and then you
come back and deny it, which is typical of a bigot.

As I said: fix your technical knowledge, and learn how to be a better person.

Unless or until you do both, I strongly suggest that you do not post
again on this or any Ubuntu list.
