right, in such cases you have to keep all pieces and see what to do with
them if it doesn't boot anymore. indeed you can do anything you like
(even booting without initrd and monolithic kernel is indeed possible)
it simply isnt a standard ubuntu anymore then and things might function
(or not function) very differently :)
