Automatic installation - is there an advantage?

Thank you Tommy, Nils and Liam for you suggestions,

I think I may stay with the automated installation because my manually 
created partitions have not made best use of the disk. For instance, my 
home partition is almost full whereas /usr and /usr/local have quite a 
bit of space left. I'll give it some more thought, but I do see the 
error of my ways.
