hmmmmm... I don't know why it doesn't get installed. Fortunately I haven't
run into a situation where something java-dependent is broken in quite
awhile. I remember seeing errors with database links / mail merges (which I
don't do a whole lot).

The only reason I saw the error at all was because I launched lowriter from
a terminal.  Maybe Ubuntu tweaks their packages to reduce the need for Java?

OH and in 14.04 there doesn't seem to be IcedTea 8 -- the two offered are 6
and 7...
