well i am happy to report that i got it! i restored everything except a few select things: /etc/fstab /etc/crypttab /etc/lvm /lost+found /mnt /media /boot /initrd.img /vmlinuz (and stuff like /dev, /proc and /tmp i didn't backup) so far everything is working as it should
