Hello Amichai,
I am very glad it worked. That is why it is called Recovery mode, it runs fsck for your files system in order to repair any internally broken logical links.

You're all off-base....
But just to be sure, I ran the checks and it's all well...
Any other ideas?
Amichai

Always a good idea to backup, tho. And also always a good idea to check the SMART info for your hdd/ssd to make sure sectors arent failing. This can sometimes be the cause of missing or damaged files, which in turn can be the reason for odd things happening. >Sounds too similar to a Windows solution... ;-) Windows is pretty easy to repair. It's rare that it needs to be reinstalled.

I'll be darned,
I went into the Recovery mode and run fsck on all file systems. It did not find any errors, but it seems that's what fixed it, because after the next boot - sound came back to Totem Player!
Thanks!
Amichai.
