rtmpdump does not appear to work

Did you even try youtube-dl? Have you installed the latest version from
yt-dl.org? Does it still not work? I said nothing about the video being on
YouTube. Any Ubuntu packages will almost surely be outdated due to the
frequency of updates. I can say that rtmpdump itself works fine as I use it
almost daily to get Flash content. As you probably know, MP4 is not Flash.
Flash video uses the .flv container format. Just because they're using
JPlayer to play it doesn't mean it's actually Flash content or that it uses
rtmp. I would try ffmpeg or avconv from the libav-tools package. I know,
for example, that prx.org also uses JPlayer but the "stream" is actually mp3
streaming over plain http.
