Motherboard recommendations for running Ubuntu?

I did it as guest, and gmusicbrowser complains that the "configured
autdiosink: sink0" is not working. If I understand things right, that
would be the HDMI, which is indeed nonfunctional for lack of audio support
in my monitors.
How do I get things to use sink 1?
