boot issues after restoring a backup

yes indeed i've also used Clonezilla a lot for imaging--successfully.
however, it is not practical as backup tool, as the system needs to be
booted into a clonezilla environment, and there is not the ability to do
incremental backups.  i used to have a program from Acronis back when i
was using Windows and it was very good--it was good for backup and
cloning and worked as a true "bare metal" restore when disaster struck.
 unfortunately i haven't yet found anything as comprehensive as that for
Unices....
