Samba usernames & passwords are not the same as Linux ones. You need
to create & manage them separately.
Personally, because I am very lazy, I use a tool called Webmin to do
this. I think it's in the Ubuntu repositories, but in modules -- I
would suggest you install all of them. Alternatively, it is just a
(vast, epic) Perl script, and you can download it and install it
directly from the Webmin website.
Otherwise, you will need to manually create the users you want to
connect to your server & set passwords for them.
