Actually I did the Mate install. It was a little slow so I installed the LXDE desktop package and switched to it. So the installation was the Linux Mate install with the LXDE desktop installed and then selected at the MDM logoin session. So far it is working well. It did have some color schemes for temrinals that were nasty to change. I thought I would never get rid of the green text. We will see how it does as an actual working machine.
