(C)LVM question

I am using LVM as storage for VM's, and I've been wondering about
sharing this with another machine with iSCSI+CLVM, to be able to
migrate the VM's, just as a learning experience.
From a little reading online on GFS, it seems this would require
expensive fencing hardware, which is totally out of the question for a
home user that just wants to experiment. Are there any alternative ways
of doing this that wouldn't require this or other expensive hardware?
Learning a lot of new technologies is not a problem, this is the reason
I'm doing this in the first place, so you could say that investment of
time is OK, but financial investment is not.
Any advice?
