Worse problem with upgrading 12.04 to 14.04

I had the same problem when I tried to upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04.
My gripe is that grub-rescue does not have any help or hints
available, so I did not have a clue what to do, and I don't have
multiple computers available to just go look on another one to find
out what to do.

I did a clean install from the DVD and that worked fine, but AFAICT
the upgrade is just broken.
