I have sucessfully installed ubuntu 14 on an X61s and an R61 lenovo
laptops and have been able to set up WINE and virtual both on both of
them and have been able to install all of my printers and scanner..
While I can install ubuntu on the W500 I have great difficulty in
installing Wine or virtual box. Generally the installs hang and it takes
several attempts before a successful install. Once installed the virtual
box lets me create a virtual machine but does not find the cd nrom to
load windows xp. Ican install some programs using wine but I cannot ger
WinBMD to work. I can only install the Brother Laser printer. The
install of the drivers for the Samsung CPL-320n and the Epson XP-100 fail.
As a windows machine it recognised all of my printers and scanners, but
of course I had the drivers and software on the manufactures cds. Its
performance was however mediocre but for what it was and will be used
for (mostly text documents and a few scanned images) still usable
Has any one had any experience of installing ubuntu, virtual box and
printers on a lenovo W500?
Are there any bios settings I need to change?
Could it be a hardware problem?
I am considering reinstalling windows XP testing that the machine is
still working properly and then trying ubuntu again.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
