That sounds like a good idea, I'll try that.


I'm able to ping the computer, but, to shift questions a bit, how, in 
general, do I know, or establish, that the server itself is serving web 
pages?


Browse to localhost?  (The server runs a flavor of SuSe, so it's little 
different, in terms of package management, or I'd already have done 
this.  Just want to go in the right direction, not down a false path.)
