Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed:

Seems like I'm getting more and more disappointed with Ubuntu. Current
version is 14.04.1 LTS, Gnome 3.12.7. This morning when trying to figure
out again the fix for this problem, ScanStream(127.0.0.1 at 1437): Can't
create temporary file, (as noted in an earlier post 14.10 upgraded made
the system unusable so had to reinstall 14.04) I went to check the
permissions on /var/clamav/tmp and nautilus would crash. Note: it was
called with 'gksudo nautilus'. The output in the terminal was:

chris at localhost:~$ gksudo nautilus
Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net
usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare
directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory
Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.

Folders with user 'root' and owner 'root' I can check the properties of,
any folder not with root as user/owner causes nautilus to crash with the
above. I did not intentionally install Samba and really have no reason
for it unless it's required. I created the folder 'usershares'
in /var/lib/samba however that didn't help. In /etc/samba/smb.conf I've
set this:

# Setup usershare options to enable non-root users to share folders
# with the net usershare command.

# Maximum number of usershare. 0 (default) means that usershare is
disabled.
   usershare max shares = 100

# Allow users who've been granted usershare privileges to create
# public shares, not just authenticated ones
   usershare allow guests = yes

If I enter in the console:

root at localhost:/var/lib# samba --help
The program 'samba' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
apt-get install samba

says it's not installed then why the error?
