I was trying: How to make a bootable usb stick with puppy linux iso and dd

without luck for 2 days.

Then I found this link: http://www.turnkeylinux.org/blog/iso2usb

1. You need to have syslinux installed

2. Then you must run the isohybrid command (included in syslinux) on your
iso file e.g. like this

isohybrid precise-5.7.1.iso (it took a fraction of a second)

3. Then I ran following dd command e.g. like this:

sudo dd if=precise-5.7.1.iso of=/dev/sdc (Do NOT use /dev/sdc1)

Please note I have first used gparted and formatted my usb stick with
FAT32 filesystem and SET the bootable FLAG to on.

And my puppy usb sticks now work like charms.

I use puppy to make backups with dd command of my partitions onto an
external hard disk (40 gb takes 45 minutes) - I find puppy
indispensible :-)
