Poor wireless on Toshiba Satellite C55t-A

I upgraded this laptop from 12.04 to 14.04 hoping wireless would be
better, but it's only marginally better if at all. Sometimes it will
not connect, if it connects many times the connection will drop and
major web sites like CNN.com sometimes take minutes to load. I don't
experience this with a wired connection and my daughter has a laptop
running 12.04 that connects with reliability and acceptable speed.

After reading through [1] & [2] below here are my results to their tests.

jfb at jim-Satellite:~$ lspci -nn | grep 0280
05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8188EE
Wireless Network Adapter [10ec:8179] (rev 01)

jfb at jim-Satellite:~$ sudo modprobe rtl8188ee
[sudo] password for jfb:
jfb at jim-Satellite:~$

jfb at jim-Satellite:~$ lsmod | grep rtl8188ee
rtl8188ee 89677 0
rtl_pci 26690 1 rtl8188ee
rtlwifi 63475 2 rtl_pci,rtl8188ee
mac80211 630653 3 rtl_pci,rtlwifi,rtl8188ee
jfb at jim-Satellite:~$

Note that [2] indicates that the 2d & 3d commands should produce
equivalent output, but #2 produces nothing.

So does it look like the proper driver is installed and is the advice
given in [1] & [2] still relevant for 14.04.

Thanks, Jim
