Thanks for that. I didn't make it clear what the problem might be.
My FFox uses SSL 3.0.  I suspect the web sites in question is using 
something later than that. If there such a thing as SSL 4.0, perhaps?

I don't know.  However I'm over the initial problems now - have 
installed Google's Chromium Browser and haven't been blocked once.

They can fight, I don't care.  I'm gone soon and they can fight some 
other battle.
