I have had this problem before. Had it mostly on systems with bad video controllers.
Do seem to be downloading a driver for your ATI graphics card. You use the Xubuntu liveCD, mount your boot partition to /mnt
#sudo mount /dev/sdaX (x=number of partition)
Then change root to the mount point.
#sudo chroot /mnt
Download the Catalyst driver and install.

Subject: Ubuntu 14.04 & AMD FirePro™ 2270
Sir/Madam
I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 onto my desktop.
My desktop contains an AMD FirePro™ 2270
I have Scientific Linux 6.5 working on this machine no problems
My usb install sticks works
When I boot to it and test Ubuntu 14.04 it works ok
However after the install (on which no errors are reported)
I select Ubuntu 14.04
It says
Loading initial RAM disk
then the machine goes blank
I did find this
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Latest-LINUX-Beta-Driver.aspx
Out of which you get this
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Catalyst-Linux-Installer-
Notes.aspx
I have downloaded this software but I can never get to a terminal window
to actually install it
Any advice help about how to resolve this, would be sincerely appreciated
Thanking you.
Yours sincerely
