Yes, there is a default route set.

Yes, the gatway is set in the /etc/network/interfaces file for eth0.
Running "route" on my server returns the following in case it helps:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
default 10.0.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0
10.0.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0

It dosn't appear so. I had a look at the WAN summary on the router and I
seem to be getting a 118.* address.

Yes. I can ping "external" IP's and get an appropriate response.
