When I started out to try to do this I started with VBox because that's 
what I have installed.  I then read something that made me think I would 
have more success with VMplayer. I even downloaded and installed a 
version on my laptop to test.  I know it involved using dd to make a 
copy of the Windows install, but now I can't find the complete instructions.
