Hi,
Sorry to come so late to this thread, but I suffered from a similar
issue on 12.04, in that wifi would keep dropping out and going from
fast(ish) to dead slow in the space of seconds. Running Acer Aspire 5720
with Intel wireless adaptor (no additional drivers needed, just the
default one bundled with kernel).
I noticed the problem disappear when I upgraded to 13.10 so the advice
about upgraded kernel rings true with me also.
Note: normal (sudo) apt-get update/upgrade no-longer does kernel
upgrades, apt-get dist-upgrade does!!
