why update programs that I do not use?

It has to upgrade anything that is installed.  Somehow you must have
installed some kde stuff at some point.  It may be you can uninstall
the packages you do not need.  If you use sudo apt-get remove
<package> then it will warn you if that implies removing lots of other
stuff before going ahead.
