I saw Peter's advice that this might not be your issue but did notice
one thing about what you've got here anyway.. Did you copy and paste
that? If so, there's an extra "e" in that link and that would cause
some things somewhere not to function.. That should read:

archive.ubuntu.com

If that's not your lost gui issue, it still is an error that would
affect other things elsewhere.. :)
