No Audio

LiveDVD image I think. Thats what I was trying to do anyhow. I used a small program called "unetbootin" ( http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ ) to install and format Ubuntu ( ubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64.iso ) onto a USB flash drive.
What it did exactly I am not sure.
Lately I have been too busy to work on the problem and as of yet I dont even know what type of sound card I am using.
Im not sure how to check.
I can say, I am using a lap top. The internal speakers work fine with Ubuntu. Only when I plug in external speakers the audio vanishes.
Once again, External speakers work properly when I boot up windows.
