There's an option in Ubuntu's install to completely wipe your drive,
including all Microsoft stuff. I'd recommend you back up your documents
and important files first before wiping the drive and placing ubuntu on it.
The installer is self-contained and as long as your pc can boot from a USB
flash drive (which has nothing to do with windows itself, most modern PCs
can boot from a USB device) you shouldn't have any issues installing from a
USB drive.
