Just getting started questions

Due to my Mandriva 2010.2 system dieing last weekend after getting a new
box I decided to give Ubuntu 14.04 LTS a try. So far I'm impressed!
Luckily I've backups to restore some of the important config files from
but I do have a few questions at the moment, more will come soon I
imagine. I'm using the Gnome desktop that shipped with this distro.

1. When creating a folder in Evolution 3.10.4 Evo crashes immediately.
2. When trying to look at folder properties to setup mailing list
addresses I get - The reported error was "Error retrieving quota
information: quota_response: expecting '('".
3. My HP1020 USB Laser Printer is recognized by the software however it
will not print. I see no errors. I've tried different USB ports and
unplugged and plugged in the printer to no effect. 
4. I want to be able to open the file manager as administrator however I
can't seem to find out how to set it up. It was rather easy in Mandriva.

There are a few new commands I had to learn and other things but the
important parts are up and running.
