Another java question

Earlier today I asked about a problem running a java streaming stock
qoute app on my brokers web site after a java update came through. As a
test I tried the site using my laptop running Saucy, which had not been
updated in a couple of days. I got the same error I encountered on my
desktop running Precise.

I installed java on both machines from LP-PPA-webupd8team-java. Looking
at Synaptic on the Saucy laptop I see I have java 8 on it. This
surprised because the update I just installed on my Precise desktop was
to Java 7. Looking at Synaptic on the desktop shows
oracle-java7-installer as the installed version, but
oracle-java8-installer is listed.

I'm not sure how this could happen and if I mark it for installation
will it then proceed to install java8?

Of course this is not the source of the problem with running the java
app on the web site, but I would like to get it fixed before calling
their tech support.

Thanks, Jim
